Do you know losing a tooth can not only affect the way you look but have many physical and psychological effects, too, affecting your overall health and preventing you from smiling with confidence? Therefore, at Allure Dental, we believe that replacing a missing tooth with dental implants can enhance your life quality by improving your self-confidence.
Dental implants are biocompatible metal posts or frames that are surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath your gums and act as replacements of the tooth's anchoring roots. Dental implants replace missing teeth by mimicking their appearance and functionality as closely as possible.
It is very important to replace missing teeth with dental implants to prevent health consequences such as bone loss, shifting and drifting of the teeth, alteration in the bite, difficulty in chewing, additional stress on the remaining teeth, etc.
Replacing missing teeth with dental implants offer many benefits that include:
According to the American Dental Association, two types of implants are considered safe. They are:
Endosteal implants:They are surgically implanted directly into the jawbone. Once the surrounding gum tissue has healed, a post is connected to the original implant with the help of a second surgery. As the last step, an artificial tooth is attached to the post individually or grouped on a bridge or denture.
Subperiosteal implants:They consist of a metal frame fitted onto the jawbone below the gum tissue. As the gums heal, the frame gets fixed to the jawbone. Post, which is attached to the frame, projects through the gums, and the artificial tooth is then mounted to the posts.
Anyone with missing teeth is a good candidate for dental implants. However, it is not recommended to place dental implants during the early teens since the dental and facial bones are still in the development stage at that age.
The best time to get a dental implant is at the time of tooth extraction. However, it is possible to place dental implants even after years of tooth loss if there is an adequate amount of healthy bone present to surround the newly placed dental implant.
